EMDR Therapy and EMDR Intensives
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. During EMDR treatment you will work with a trained therapist who will guide you through each stage of the process. We offer this therapy modality in two ways. The first is by using EMDR techniques during your weekly therapy sessions. EMDR Intensives take place over two days and allow you to focus on healing in a shorter time period. Learn more about these two options below.
What is EMDR?
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy. EMDR uses bilateral movements, such as eye movements or tapping, to help reduce the intensity of trauma memories and associated emotions. Research has shown EMDR is an effective form of treatment for trauma recovery and can also support individuals seeking treatment for anxiety, OCD, depression, addiction, and chronic pain. You can learn more about EMDR treatment on EMDR International Association’s website.
What is an EMDR Intensive?
Weekly therapy can be a positive, consistent support during the recovery process, however, there are times when it can be helpful to focus on healing in a more condensed way. In an EMDR Intensive you will meet with your EMDR provider for a total of 6 hours over 2 days. This format allows for more in depth processing in a shorter time period. Prior to the Intensive you will have an intake session with your EMDR provider to share about your history. You will also have preparatory sessions to discuss your overall goal for the EMDR Intensive and what to expect.
What is the Cost?
If you have an insurance carrier our practice accepts, insurance can be used to cover your intake session as well as traditional 50-to-60-minute EMDR sessions. If you are interested in an EMDR Intensive, insurance can be used to cover part of the cost. For EMDR Intensives, insurance can cover your intake session and any preparatory sessions you have before your intensive. If you have an insurance provider we are not in network with, we can provide you with a Superbill to submit to your insurance carrier for reimbursement. Insurance does not cover the cost of the intensive sessions. Prior to starting we will provide you with a good faith estimate, so you are aware of all costs before starting treatment.
